Hi, my name is Jeff Markland I have been the pastor of Good News Community Church since 2016! I know I am blessed and in the place God wants me to be.
In 1985 at the University of Illinois I accepted Jesus into my Heart, I was born again, but not ready to surrender my will and life over to Gods care.
The Lord called me to use my Athletic talents for His glory. God impressed on me that when people focused on me and my football talent, would I use that as an opportunity to point them to Jesus and give Him the glory. I wasn’t ready to do that, and that started a 22-year wilderness journey.
After destroying my NFL careen after 1 season I tried to find Love in all the wrong places. As a result, Addiction, prison, and a life of rebellion caused me and my family a lot of pain and suffering.
On December 30, 2007 while in the ugly pig pin of self-will, I came to my senses. Our heavenly Father ran to meet me, His Love, grace, and goodness allowed me to truly forgive myself for all my mistakes and sin. I was set free!
I could go on and on about Gods good work, His calling and purpose from my life are now being fulfilled.
There are two promises from God that have helped me along the way. First, Jesus restores what the enemy has taken from us, and secondly, Gods calling on our life is irrevocable.
